Tapawingo chef’s/owners, Gregg & Ginny McCallum are culinary art graduates of Kendall College and Macomb Community College. When they married in 1992, they honeymooned in NW Michigan in search of the finest restaurants and that is when they discovered Tapawingo. It was an "aha moment”, love at first sight when they pulled into the driveway of this off-the-beaten-path restaurant on beautiful St Clair Lake in Ellsworth, this experience became their annual way to celebrate their anniversary.
Jump forward to 2003 when Gregg & Ginny, along with their two sons, Kadin & Garrett relocated from Clarkston, MI to Charlevoix to pursue their passion for cooking and experience a more enjoyable life with their boys doing what they love in NW Michigan. In 2009 Tapawingo closed, and at that time they had already begun growing a catering business in downtown Charlevoix called, A Matter of Taste. They had quickly outgrown the space downtown Charlevoix and that's when it was brought to their attention that Tapawingo was available to purchase, and it would be the perfect location for them, and they knew it was their destiny.
Our Thursday night solstice dinners were inspired by guests missing their beloved Tapawingo. Their oldest son, Kadin, plays amazing fingerstyle acoustic guitar every Thursday.
